While Cathy Cahill spends her time making illustrations, fabric animals, pillows, pocket mirrors, pendants and greeting cards featuring her line of whimsical characters, her dog Sugar snoozes away. Sugar is more of a silent partner.

Cathy is inspired by color, pattern, design, outsider art, vintage fabrics and old children’s books. Her favorite materials to work with include bright, fun fabrics and doodling with her favorite black marker.

Cathy has been a SoWa Holiday Market Vendor since 2007. “SoWa is great because it is filled with very talented people with amazing creative energy. I love to see what all the artists create - pottery, jewelry, fiber, edibles - so much great stuff! It's hard not spend all you make at SoWa.  It's a great show and I enjoy being a part of it. And I love the Christmas music!”

Cathy’s funky and fun illustrations are perfect for decorating a kid’s room or a nursery. She also offers a personalization service for her prints to make the artwork a little extra special. Laura Collins of Pansy Maiden designs and constructs her own line of sustainable, fashion-forward, lux-yet-practical handbags that are free of all animal products (no leather, wool, silk or glues/washing detergents with animal derivatives). Laura has been in business for three years, and this will be Pansy Maiden’s debut as a SoWa Holiday Market vendor.

“I strongly believe that all things connect--The way we treat animals, the way we treat our Earth, and the way we treat each other. This is why I use the highest quality, animal-free, longest-lasting materials on the market to build my bags. I also believe in supporting other small American businesses whenever I can.”

Laura chose her business name in loving tribute to her grandmother, Pansy Pauline Maiden. In addition to being a great caregiver, she could play a mean harmonica! One of Pansy Maiden’s most popular styles, The Lady Day, is named after Billie Holiday, another inspiration. Laura finds that her music is the only music she can listen to while designing that doesn’t distract from the task at hand. The Lady Day bag has an orange ruffle, representing the gardenia that Billie Holiday wore in her hair.
